Motozor

A girl, a bike, and an open road

My version of “The Rules” for this trip includes “no chain restaurants except to pee and steal wifi”… I stopped in Madras, OR where I got stared at, a sweaty Amazon in hivis gear. I stole wifi like a champ and peed SO MUCH at that diner!

Mt Jefferson from Timberline Lodge on Mt Hood. The recent forest fires certainly adding to the drama of the view!

  • Deer: 5
  • Coyote: 1
  • LEO: 3
  • Dropped bike on gravel parking lot: 1
  • Liters of water consumed: 5

Quite frankly, this was exhausting. There was little opportunity to stop, few gas stations, parks, diners, and certainly no shade.. and the next few days are forecast hotter. Going to have a good think about my plan.

Took a 15-mile detour to see the Painted Hills in the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument

I did stop in Mitchell, OR and accidentally found myself at the Painted Hills Festival which was basically 45-50 old timers and church folks in the tiny city park. They feed me BBQ and marionberry lemonade and the old ladies coo’d and clucked over how a nice “young” lady like me was brave to be out on the road by myself and how wonderful and adventure it must be and now I have friends in Mitchell, OR!

The route today was 150 miles of this

Also a big thank you to the owner of the General store in Dayville, OR for rushing out to check on me when I dumped the bike in her gravel parking lot. She shared some stories about Sturgis and let me sit in the shade for half an hour with as much cold water as I could ask for.

Finally made it to Prairie City, OR.. 290 miles in 105F omg. Off to find dinner. Staying the night in a “tiny” house that is quite charming and has a TUB and a tankless water heater so look out sore back!
